Worry Free Background Check
Every year millions of Canadians have a run in with the law. Sometimes these run-ins result in criminal records, sometimes they don’t. A non-conviction record results when there is no criminal conviction or full criminal records.
Unfortunately non-conviction records will routinely turn up in a common background check. Most employers will complete a background check on a potential new hire. It is becoming more common for employers to do a background check on existing employees too!
The fact is, because it is so easy and cheap (in some provinces you can get a free background check) to do a criminal record search, at some point, criminal records and non-conviction records will affect your life.
The only way to ensure you will pass a criminal record search for those with criminal records is to apply for a Pardon, and for those with non-conviction – a record purge.
Once complete, all non-conviction record information is removed from searchable systems and destroyed. Fingerprints and photographs, which were submitted to the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), including negatives, are recalled to the originating police and destroyed.
Occasionally, those with non-conviction criminal records may be offered the opportunity to witness the record purge or destruction in person.
Express Pardons Canada obtains a written confirmation of the file destruction for your records. Once your file is destroyed from CPIC, the provincial courts are notified to close their corresponding files from public access.
After a purge is complete, you will not need to worry about your records turning up in a criminal record search, background check, backcheck or other clearances.
On occasion, police may not be willing to destroy local records. In these instances, Express Pardons can petition to have the classification of the record changed so that it will not be disclosed in a criminal record search, background check, backcheck or other clearance check.
